Throw them away and pay the fee or come up with a genius do-it-yourself project? A man put his dream project into reality and surprised all of us with a genius, innovative idea.
Since he worked for a garage door company, he was able to get his hands on more than enough garage door panels. As production go along, orders for garage doors sometimes get mixed up and on rare occasions, technicians notice that steel sheets are damaged or just the wrong color. Instead of throwing these away, he took advantage of the situation and gathered up as many panels as he possibly could. With these panels he put together the ice rink of his dreams, a place where he could have friendly hockey games with his friends, family and where he could teach his kids how to skate.
To build an ice rink with borders similar to this one, you will need patience and help from anyone who offers it to you. First, round up the panels you think on using and make sure you have enough. After, measure the outlines of your desired ice rink area. As your area is set up, you can build the rink by framing the perimeter with your panels. Strengthen it with rink brackets. You can also use landscaping spikes or rebar to support the boards. Next step is to put a plastic tarp on the rink area. That’s it!
Sure not everyone has a large enough backyard to install an ice rink, and not all of us have the time or works for a garage door company. You can easily find smaller ideas. Small doesn’t mean it can’t be as practical or as creative of a project as a big ice rink!
